Mission: Season 1, Episode 2: War, Peace, And All That Jazz
Location: Deep Space Station K-9- Conference Room, Deck 9
Timeline: After 'In Troubled Waters (Part 3)'

Previously, on Star Trek: Deep Space K-9:

"Before we proceed to the next stage of negotiations, I think it would behoove both parties to consult with their respective governing bodies, so that they may be brought up to speed on the pending investigation," Tekina suggested. "Communication will be critical if we stand to gain one another's trust in this matter."

"I believe we can honor that request, Ambassador," Rally nodded before turning to address the greater assembly at large. "Per the the request of Ambassador Tekina, I hereby grant a recess period of 24 hours for both parties to get in touch with their respective governments; we shall reconvene here at this time tomorrow. This meeting is hereby adjourned."

And now, the conclusion:

In Rebecca's honest opinion, allowing for this recess was a mistake. Who knew how quickly the Kaiser (or for that matter, any Eifie government officials) would be here at the station and attempt to influence the course of the negotiations? Regardless, Rebecca held her tongue as she was one of the first up to see Barkh and Tekina safely escorted from the briefing room, and she had good reason to: Throughout the meeting, she'd heard over her communicator that both Eifie and Rheuysian protestors were gathering outside.

Sitting in her seat, thoughtfully looking off into the middle distance, Michaud reflected this was probably the correct thing to do. Both sides would need to coordinate with their home governments in any case, and they'd be moving forward at the pace of the slowest responder in any case.

Ambassadors needed instructions, Damien knew. They might have the authority to speak for their governments but that only extended so far. He could only hope things would move quickly. The situation warranted it.

As the doors to the conference room opened, the Rheuysian and Eifie guards had formed separate lines, attempting to keep the gathered protestors at bay and clear a pathway for Barkh and Tekina to be escorted out. As Rebecca attempted to navigate the ambassadors through, one of the Rheuysian soldiers couldn't hold back one of the protestors as one of them slipped through their line.

"Ambassador Barkh?" a voice called out amid the clamor.

Before Barkh even had the chance, a bald, surly, gray-skinned man with large ears that ran down his neck stepped forward and punched her in the face, sending her careening to the ground.

"You piece of shit!" he snarled. "You have the audacity to claim yourself as a champion of the people, and you can't even manage the essential needs of your workforce?!"

"Oh, for Christ's sake!" Rally exclaimed as she pulled out her phaser. "Security!"

Rebecca didn't need to be ordered to do so, for the sound of Barkh hitting the deck was all Rebecca needed to hear to know that a hostile had breached containment, and as the call for her rang out, Rebecca was already tackling the man to the ground.

"You are under arrest for causing a public disturbance." Rebecca stated as she pulled the man's hands behind his back. "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used you in a court of law. You have a right to an attorney. If you do not have an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand the rights I have just read to you?"

"My children are starving because of you!" the man continued to rant as security helped him to his feet. "I slave my ass off in the mines of Ko'Baa just to make ends meet, all so you gold-blooded pricks can live in the lap of luxury?! YOU OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!"

"I'll take that answer as a no, then." Rebecca said, giving the man a shove. "Keep walking, or you'll be resisting arrest!"

Being new, Malcom didn't know all of the ends and outs to what appeared to be a very complicated situation. But we he did know that this would likely get worse before ever improving. Moving in closer, Hunt assisted with getting Barkh off the floor. "Are you in need of medical attention?"

"No, I'm good." Barkh responded, looking in the direction Rebecca was now heading. "It'll take a lot more than that to hurt me... That being said, I shall be requesting a military tribunal for that man. If he has the audacity to strike a military officer, his family can live without their breadwinner..."

"Er... I think it may be best if we handle that, Ambassador," Rally offered. "After all, he did attack you aboard our station, so it would technically fall under our jurisdiction to prosecute him."

Michaud fully rolled her eyes at the chaos she saw. She was surprised anyone had been let anywhere near such sensitive talks, especially with tensions running high on both sides. She saw Barkh was handling it with her usual

After things quieted, the diplomatic personnel having vacated the area, Damien could only sigh. "Was day one dramatic enough for everyone?"

"What a way to kick things off..." Rally groaned. "We get roped into a murder investigation and Ambassador Barkh gets assaulted; if this is the sort of shit I can expect over the next few days, I sure as hell don't look forward to what tomorrow will bring..."
