Personality & Traits
General Overview | Sergei was born and raised in one of the planet’s harshest and most unforgiving environments, in a remote mining town north of the Arctic circle in Siberia. He was honed into a lean, strong young man, working the mines with his father after graduating upper secondary school. He was bright and inquisitive but appeared to be set on the same path as all the men in his family before him, to work in the diamond mines which allowed for a comfortable living, but was inherently dangerous. However, when his father was killed when a 'cage' failed, Sergei realized that he wanted more to life than living in a depressing hellhole, numbing the pains with vodka, and dying far younger than the average human. He is a genial sort, having perfected soft eyes so that he doesn’t look like he’s analyzing every aspect of his environment (be it people, his surroundings, or data he is deciphering). Sergei is straightforward to a fault and has been known to not be diplomatic when conveying data, sometimes to his detriment. He does what needs to be done, fight when he needs to fight, saves when he needs to save, and sacrifices when there is no other way out. |

Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths: Personable, good humored, intelligent (sometimes), decisive, brave, hard-working, stands by his word. Physical strength / agility, disciplined (while on duty, anyway) Weaknesses: Doesn’t trust easily. Oh, he’ll be affable towards you, but he doesn’t trust anyone any farther than he can throw them. Temper – Do not be fooled by the smiles and easy-going demeanor, Sergei has a robust temper that once lit has to burn itself out – collateral damage often occurs with fire. Jaded – His upbringing showed him that life was hard; and recent developments have only proven that axiom, yet again. |
|
Ambitions | Remain in good standing in Starfleet (it’s really iffy since the ‘Maybourne Incident.’), Get off the backwater gulag of a station he has been banished to, and somehow get back into the role he spent a significant amount of time training and being educated for – that of working on the most technologically advanced starships known to the Federation. жизнь не сахар. Life is not sugar. Vernacular: Sergei speaks with a thick Russian accent and oftentimes uses Russian syntax when speaking in Earth Standard. However, how much of that is just his natural way of speaking or an affectation is up for debate. |

Hobbies & Interests | Physical fitness / Running Drinking - it's cliche, but come on. It's deep space. Has a pet project - a theoretical warp engine design that could improve efficiency of dilithium usage; it is in beginning stages of theorizing/development, but now that he's been banished to the frontier he 'may' have more time to work on it. |
Personal History | Sergei excelled in school growing up. Mathematics came second nature to him and when it aligned with science in the form of an engineering class, he became hooked. He started working at the same mine as his father when he came of age and became aware at just how unsafe some of the structural designs were in the mine. He came up with a number of modifications for equipment and presented it to the mine leaders and was summarily fired. His father died a week later in the ‘cage,’ descending to the depths to make his quota for the day. It was a watershed moment for him. His life was going to end in a dark shaft or in the bottom of a vodka bottle if he stayed in this place. With what meager savings he had, Sergei booked a one-way ticket into Moscow and saw a Starfleet recruitment center near Red Square and went in to satisfy his curiosity. Four years of scholastic excellence and a commission later, Sergei found himself working in prototype vessels that were nothing short of miraculous. He was a sponge, soaking up all of the theory, technology, and hands-on application that his future career path as a next great was all but assured. While aboard his latest assignment on Redacted, he met and fell in love with Oliva Thorson, a CONN officer onboard Redacted, not realizing she was the daughter of Rear Admiral Caroline Maybourne, Chief of Engineers…THE BOSS. Oliva never informed him of that fact, and her last name reflected her father’s contribution as Admiral Maybourne divorced him when Olivia was a young child and retook her maiden name. When her mother arrived aboard as part of a surprise inspection of the Redacted—and also to see her only child—Maybourne found Oliva and Sergei in a more than compromising position. Seeing the ‘backwoods’ Russian man as not good enough for her daughter—and the legacy she wanted to create within Starfleet—Maybourne had Zaigraev demoted and exiled to a semi-derelict station, Deepsace K-9. |
