Personal History Born in the deep woods of Northern Arkansas for the first 5 years of her life she lived as every one of her family had lived for centuries. It was one of the few places on Earth where some people had rejected technology and decided to live off the land. Then one day at the age of 5 she discovered the outside world. She saw a shuttle fly overhead and followed it until it landed. She watched from the brush as a bunch of Starfleet cadets talked about their lives and about how excited they were to see space. She was thrilled by this, the idea of walking amongst the stars was too much to hold in. Her father beat her when she told him about it and for years later if he caught her staring out the window at the stars, which she would often do, he would beat her again. And that was how life went, she was beaten when she dared to dream of something better, but she never gave up.

Years of abuse led to her eventually run away from home one cold night shortly after her 16th birthday. She ran through the woods and was eventually discovered well off the reservation by some park rangers. Safe she told her story to the rangers and in the year that followed she was housed and sheltered by the Earth Government as they worked to shut down the reservation and hold those who had abused Heather and others responsible.

It was a rough year for Heather as she was poked, prodded, and scanned what felt like thousands of times. Scans of where her father had broken her arm and scans of other places on her body with left over scars. She only got through it with the help of a few skilled counselors and some very patient Doctors. It was during that year she developed an interest in medicine.

After it was all said and the reservation was closed, the adults were sent to rehabilitation centers, and children were sent into foster homes. Heather was old enough by then to live on her own, but she did not know where she wanted to go. Her case worker recommended Starfleet, a place she could go to finally live out her dream of walking among the stars.

Starfleet was hard, and medical classes were even harder. But she persisted and eventually graduated from the Academy with an average grade. Medical classes meant she took another couple of years as an assisting physician on a starbase before she was officially given the rank of ensign.

After that things were much nicer. She would bounce from ship to ship for a few years, working her way up the ranks, but she carried the pain of her past with her, even her accent reminded her of the past she wanted to leave behind her.
