| Personal History | Damien Maillet is the eldest child and only son of Florian and Claudie. The family, which later included his four younger sisters, lived on Earth in the outskirts of Paris, France. The young Damien was always good with his ear and his voice. He could sing passably well but his better skill was his oration. He could entertain his sisters for hours with his stories. It was clear from a young age as well that he was very good with languages, learning English aka “Federation Standard”, German, Spanish, Dutch, and Russian, followed quickly by Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, and later as a teen Vulcan, Andorian, and Tellarite. Career development officers at Damien’s school suggested he should apply to Starfleet Academy to make use of his ear and tongue in alien communication. He got in and spent four years learning how to be an effective Communications Officer. He added Deltan and Klingon to his language portfolio. He also discovered that he could get very lonely in the absence of his parents and sisters, so he tried to stay social as much as he could. He spent his Ensign years as a junior comms officer aboard USS Daring and then was an Assistant Chief aboard USS Shiloh. His knowledge of the Klingon language helped the Shiloh avoid destruction at the hands of a D6 Cruiser in 2264, as he and his team had decoded the Klingon ship’s comms system and worked around the Klingons’ plans. In 2265, he was promoted and assigned as Chief Communications Officer on Deep Space K-9. |
